2023 - Favourite Moments

As I take a moment to reflect on 2023, gratitude overwhelms me for the countless moments, smiles, and memories I had the privilege of witnessing and capturing. I’m so proud of the growth I’ve experienced.

After a bit of a break, I’m back in the swing of things —organizing folders, updating brochures, and already behind the lens. While, this time of year typically brings some pressure, I'm starting the year feeling hopeful and positive about what lies ahead. Perhaps sage-cleansing the house worked its magic.

This business is for YOU. I could argue, it is YOU—it's your relationships, your families, your moments, your memories. I assure you, a positive experience together is the only thing I work around the clock for.

On New Year's Eve, I woke up and took a moment for ME. Upon reflection, I realized how much was accomplished in 2023. It's easy to be self-critical when big tasks seem incomplete every day. But that's the nature of BIG tasks. It takes hard work and time to see results—yearly business goals are meant to take the YEAR. Chill, Nic.

In 2023, several significant additions were made to the business:
- Implemented a client management software to improve my workflow
- Rebranded and launched a new site
- Completed all client brochures and planning guides to align with my new branding colors and fonts
- Asked for help and improved my SEO by monitoring analytics
- Consistently built out blog posts, started newsletters, and pinned my heart out to create different marketing avenues.

The list goes on, all while managing the usual admin, accounting, editing, and day-to-day tasks. Several events and creative sessions, numerous print and album orders, 32 sessions, and 18 weddings later, here we are, entering a whole new chapter.

My friendship with fellow artists has grown tremendously. I value those connections, and I'm filled with gratitude when I think about the beautiful photographers I'm surrounded by. Being able to share frustrations and celebrate wins with people who truly understand what it takes to run a business is imperative. Without their support, I don't know how I would function.

The absence of constraints, we had grown accustomed to, felt like a breath of fresh air (metaphorically and literally) as the world reopened. The freedom to move and create without limitations was truly liberating. In 2023, a significant focus was placed on understanding my artistic style better. This evolution resulted in a more refined and authentic representation of my clients' stories. I hold deep sentimental value in photographs of my own family, friends, and spouse, and I constantly remind myself of that importance when photographing your memories.

This year held personal significance as I openly shared challenges in my physical and mental well-being on social media. The support and similar stories from others was a reminder of the power of vulnerability. Unraveling a significant piece of the puzzle, I received an ADHD diagnosis. Navigating the complexities of ADHD presented its own set of challenges, but it also brought about newfound strength and resilience, shaping both my personal and professional journey. This deeper understanding of who I am, strengthens my connections with you— my clients, family, and friends.

As the year drew to a close, Alan and I treated ourselves to a well-deserved vacation in Mexico, accompanied by 12 friends. Alan's support extended beyond emotional support this year; he assisted in administration tasks, decision-making, and even stood by my side photographing some of your weddings. He's been a rock. The sandy beaches and vibrant culture of Mexico was exactly what we needed. We've returned with renewed inspiration and excitement for 2024 adventures.

To wrap up the year, I've put together a slideshow—a little recap of sessions, moments, and creativity. There's no specific order, just an overall celebration of the amazing journey I've had working with you all. This year's sessions were incredible—I say that every year, don't I? I'm not even going to lie; I watched this back with tears in my eyes. Reliving every laugh, tear, idea, and thought is exactly why I love photography. Moments don't last, but photos do.

As we kick off 2024, I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge your ongoing support, comments, likes, shares, and, of course, your business! I can't help but feel a sense of excitement for what 2024 holds. The year ahead promises new stories, new and returning faces, and endless opportunities for creative exploration. I can't wait to spend afternoons welcomed into your homes, dance with your friends and family on your wedding dancefloor, run in sunset-filled fields with your kids, and make your photography dreams a reality!

Thank you. There are no other words; just really, utterly, and truly, thank you. I love what I do. This isn't work; this isn't a job; this is an incredible life.

Here's to 2024 🖤🥂
